Cantor Gerber came to Ohr Kodesh in 1983. Since then, he has taught hundreds of children and adults how to chant Torah and Haftarah.
Prior to Ohr Kodesh, he served as Cantor of Congregation Bnai Zion in El Paso, Texas. Cantor Gerber was born in Chicago. He studied at the University of Illinois, and received a bachelor of Sacred Music degree and a Diploma of Hazan from the Cantors Institute and College of Jewish Music of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York.
Cantor Gerber also has studied at the Jewish Theological Seminary and the College of Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. He worked as Rosh Hazzanut at Camp Ramah in New England. He is a member the Cantors Assembly of America. In Washington, Cantor Gerber was chairman of the Cantors Assembly Seaboard Region. In addition, he also gives lectures in the community on various aspects of Jewish music. Cantor Gerber is married to Barbara Gerber, a social worker. They have two children, Sarit and Naftali.
