More Information About Joanie's Friday Night Celebration

For more than 25 years (and still counting!), Joanie Smeltz has welcomed countless families into the OKECC Community, guided numerous educators, and embraced thousands of children. We greatly hope you will join us in honoring Joanie for her unwavering dedication

1. Bring your whole family on March 24, beginning at 5:45pm, to our OKECC Reunion  for all past and present day families, educators and staff, colleagues and more who want to honor Joanie! This event will include a special Family Shabbat Service & Dinner with a special tribute to Joanie by past and present parents and educators. Register here for tickets for Friday night Shabbat Service and Dinner!

2. Please help us in building a special commemorative book to honor Joanie! Write a letter to Joanie. Give her a family update. Share a special memory. Send well-wishes or words of congratulations. Of course, pictures from yesteryear and/or the present day are most definitely welcomed, as are drawings from your children. Please keep submissions to one side of a standard 8 ½ x 11 letter size paper. Multiple pages may be sent!

Send everything by MARCH 1, in an email to Amy Jones atajones [at] ohrkodesh [dot] org ( ajones)ajones [at] ohrkodesh [dot] org (

Or mail a hard copy to:  ATTN: Amy Jones, OKECC, 8300 Meadowbrook Lane, Chevy Chase, MD 20815

3. Additionally, as part of her past, present and continuing tenure as Director, Joanie has always made every effort to find resources to assist families who want to send their children to the ECC, but who may not have the full financial means to do so. She also has continuously strived to find ways to help defray the costs for families for services needed to treat children with special needs. However, ECC resources are limited. Therefore, we are requesting donations in Joanie's honor to increase the number of families that the ECC can help with these types of financial needs.

Donations to the ECC Scholarship Fund can be made in one of three ways:

A) A check made payable to Ohr Kodesh Congregation, and a note on the memo line that says "In Honor of Joanie Smeltz"

B) OKC members and current ECC families may make a pledge via email and request that the amount be credited to their monthly bill

C) Online donation. Use this link: "ECC Scholarship Fund", to access the donation website page. If you are a current member of OKC, then log-in with your Ohr Kodesh Account. For all non-members, simply click "Create a Guest Account" and follow the instructions. (Questions?
