Speaker: Mr. Jonathan Schanzer

Mr. Jonathan Schanzer, Sr. VP of research at The Foundation for Defense of Democracies, will speak about recent developments in Israel.            Zoom Link: TBD

Israel has seen a whirlwind of major developments in the past 18 months: three elections, a fierce second wave of coronavirus, a massive economic downturn, the announcement of the "Peace to Prosperity" plan, deadlines to annex areas of the West Bank, a Palestinian Authority boycott of negotiations, normalization of relations with an Arab state for the first time in more than 25 years, and the U.N. refusal to extend the arms embargo on Iran. How do these events all fit together? What do they mean for Israel's future?

Come hear from Dr. Jonathan Schanzer, senior vice president for research at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD). Dr. Schanzer oversees the work of FDD’s experts and scholars, and is also on the leadership team of FDD’s Center on Economic and Financial Power, a project on the use of financial and economic power as a tool of statecraft. Dr. Schanzer previously worked as a terrorism finance analyst at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, and has held previous think tank research positions at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and the Middle East Forum.
